Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero, who formally call themselves Rodrigo y Gabriela, create a genre of music that is like no other. They met as young teenagers who's passion for metal music brought them together. They spent the earlier years of their lives playing in Dublin. The two Mexican songwriters were something that Dublin had never herd before. They claimed "We still wanted to be metal composers, but everything came out as Latin!" They left Dublin to travel around Europe for a few years learning new styles and refining their skills as worldly musicians. As they were in Barcelona, they got asked to play a show at the newly opened Sugar Club back in Dublin. This club developed a name for the group and in 2003 the album re-Foc was released. This release, as well as the 2004 release of the album Live: Manchester and Dublin made them recognized around the world. There style is a fusion of many styles, all played on classical acoustic guitars. There are elements of Classical Spanish style, Latin, metal, flamenco and world music while still being a rock based group. They implement their own styles of guitar and use the acoustic guitar as a percussion instrument simultaneously. After there most recent release in 2009 of the album 11:11 they began gaining poularity among the mainstream American music scene. Since 2001 they have released four studio albums and two live albums.
