Gov't Mule was started as a side project 19 1994 by Warren Haynes, and Allen Woody; both are members of the Allman Brothers Band, however since they were not coming up with any new material Haynes (guitarist/lead vocalist) and Woody (Bassist/vocalist) released heir self titled debut album in 1995 titled "Gov't Mule." The album had mediocre sucess but fans wanted more of the Alman Brothers Band sound. "It feels like we're moving forward and backward at the same time," Haynes notes. "Hardcore fans tend to not want us to move too far away from where we started, but the band never wants to stay in one place for very long." The band released a total of fourteen albums since 1995. After the death of Allen Woody in 2000, Haynes began experimenting with different musicians and genres. Currently Haynes' band consists of Matt Abts, Danny Louis, and Jorgen Carrison. Waren Haynes and Gov't Mule have also have been respected and experienced enough to play with some of the greatest musicians of this time including Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Mike Gordon and others. Gov't Mule is most widely known for their live performances and have become staple acts at venues and festivals such as Bonnnaroo, Mountain Jam, the New Orleans Jazz fest and other9s. Gov't Mule has a very unique fanbase that has kept it sucessfull for over a decade and they are still releasing new music.
